Review Summary: Cold promises

Not much literature is available online about Elusin, we (do) know she’s half-norwegian and lived in Virginia, regardless (the opposite) may also be true. She popped in the scene with sweet, oneiric experiments, with a very “don’t-mess-with-me” thematic nonchalance, she also is a cellist but her music doesn’t really show this prominently. Elusin seems like an elusive figure (apologies but pun had to be included), but regardless of her dreamy swag, she has a raw rave-y-ness which adds to her appeal. Synfuels flirts with the cold, utilitarian factor a song from Varg²™ may have, with folk character and bounce. Whilst it’s true witchhouse is old, Elusin is a more artist-centric project (most witchhouse artists used pseudonyms and were duos, or related) Elusin here brings cabin-in-the-woods lvls of comfy, no snoozefest along. Some of the best moments in the album are “Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies” which kind of sounds like mbv’s “soon”.

It’s witchhouse kind of, but it’s also kind of dream pop-y
