Review Summary: unleash the monstrous video game nerd within you.
Yes, an adventure, I love adventures! There’s just something adventurous about adventuring in new adventures. How adventurous I feel when adventuring, and how unadventurous it is when not adventuring! Unfortunately, since the beginning of man, adventuring often consisted of doing the exact opposite of what was logical and right, and thus what happened was what could only be described as bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronnt uonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk (an actual word). What a muck we put ourselves in, I can’t even begin to imagine what music would have sounded like if Adam and Eve didn’t eat the apple (probably amazing), but c’est la vie. Instead, everyone tries to sound completely different nowadays, but ironically, with so many years of built up sounds, nothing really sounds new anymore. So the answer, sometimes, is to make something that reminds the listener of better times and good memories. However, not even something as instantly euphoric as Adventure’s
Adventure can conjure up enough feelings to make the album stunning, and that’s saying something considering that it basically runs on euphoria.
Adventure is basically the soundtrack to a morbidly old video game except that it isn’t. The album’s description states that, “His ultra-melodic synth compositions pull from his earliest exposure to the 8-bit soundtracks of the Sega Genesis video game catalog.” The funny thing is, the comparison between the music of this album and the Sega Genesis console is so obvious that it could be guessed after a few seconds of listening. Whereas bands like Anamanaguchi actually do something unique with their video game influences, Adventure is stooped in the past. Whether or not that is a bad thing depends on how many balls to the wall synthesizers you can stand. Do you like reminiscing about ancient video games? Did you specifically enjoy the Sega Genesis? Did you also happen to like the silly, cheesy music that originated from any and all of those games? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you will undoubtedly find something enjoyable, or at least attractive about
Adventure. There is little else that can be said about the album – you will either like it or hate it.
