Alternately probing, euphoric, defiant, lush, abstract; all of the temperamental virtuosity sticks because it's rooted in complex and relatable themes that keep the listener invested in something more than the whiplash musical twists and turns. This sounds groundbreaking yet achingly human, like an R&B Age of Adz. AOTY easily

Natural Brown Prom Queen decidedly tries to be creative with its R&B roots, and succeeds at that, balancing rap tendencies with artsier inclinations and other soul-adjacent tropes. Is it good? Yessir. Does it manage to make my heart move? Not that much, sorry. Edit: it did manage to make my heart groove a lil!

On her sophomore album Brittney Parks branches farther into art pop and takes on more of a life of her own. Although the album of Frank Ocean's influence can be extremely distracting, overall, this is a really great album showcasing a natural-born experimental RnB artist. With more time and effort, she can really come into her own and develop her own sound, but for now, just have to keep listening to this banger of an album.
