Review Summary: A synthwave form of slasher b-movies! really good!

From the scorching heat of Nevada desert emerges Panther Wolfe, a prolific synthwave project with quite a distinctive retro flavour.

Self titled album is based on a fictional world of homicide detective Jericho Panther and undercover cop Damien Wolfe on their mission to fight crime in the city of El Vegas. This summary gives you all the info to know exactly what to expect from a concept album with such a backstory.

Yes, it’s neon, big sunglasses, future noir vibe and tons of keyboards. Well, mostly keyboards. Straight-forward, albeit at times repetitive, synthwave with nostalgic drum machine sound and alternative 80’s movie soundtrack feeling, Panther Wolfe delivers almost three dozen tracks fit for Double Dragon and Mad Max series. It’s repetitive, tense and built to resurrect those sweet memories of 16 bit consoles. Heck, all the plugins that are used in the creation of this album were definitely hand picked to push all the right buttons of every geek - I know it worked for me, for sure.

With newer instalments (Lunatic and Cold Blaze, food example) Panther Wolfe further explores the fields of electronic retro music, developing the songwriting and production, trying new creative directions. While remaining fully instrumental, the songs tend to become “weirder” with more diverse sampling and sound collage, going a little more bonkers but keeping the original aesthetics.

Panther Wolfe is the perfect pick for everyone who misses old slasher b-movies, bulky leather jackets and Hotline Miami. Put on your headband and play it loud with your ghettoblaster.

I'm a little annoyed at this PR stunt, but I'll probably check this anyway, so I guess it worked.

In the future please use the "submit news item" function instead of a "review".
