Review Summary: lactose intolerant people - BEWARE

Music to bellovddd, is an emotional experience that I invest a lot of time and myself into. I get so caught up in how I relate to the music or lyric I am listening to that I can write it off quickly if that connection is missing. Music can lift you up to some of the greatest heights but also assist when you are down at the greatest lows. Music is special like that, and it has been with me for as long as I could muster up the knowledge on how to work a tape deck.

One Morning Left’s ‘Hyperactive’ has zero emotional connection with bellovddd. There is not one element in this music that I connect with on an emotional level. So why do I find myself returning to this regularly?

Well, this is damn fun. Say what you will about the technical aspects of the album and the genre it fits into, it’s hard to deny the fact that it’s FUN and more importantly, the dudes in the band also seem to be having FUN and not taking themselves too seriously, especially when you have songs like ‘Creatures’ which lends its hand to all the cheesy 80’s horror fun one needs..

Don’t take yourself to seriously, I know It’s hard sometimes, especially when it comes to music. ‘Hyperactive’ is a great example of doing what you love and not caring about what others may think. ‘Ruby Dragon’ opens with what I thought was Thriller by MJ and ‘Sinners are Winners’ is just an all-out cheese fest, and I’ll tell you, this is a cheese I am happy to consume.

Throughout the album you are assaulted with the essential mix of metalcore with cheesy 80’s synths and melody lines. With a great unclean vocal performance from Frontman Mika who holds all the BROOTAL parts together and really does shine on ‘Drowned God’ and the Title Track with some disgustingly beautiful sounds. Clean vocalist Levi applies an endless amount of cheese with some gloriously hammy melodies and auto tuned lines with ‘Neon Highway’ and ‘Creatures’ being his standout moments. Usually I dismiss the use of auto-tune as a tool used to cover up terrible singing. Whilst Levi isn’t the greatest vocalist, its used here to compliment the music, not cover up his performance and it compliments it well.

There are a few moments when they strip back the cheese and return to a solid metalcore sound. The opening to ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ being one of the more intense moments on the record although it doesn’t take too long for the synths to come crashing back in. There is some genuinely nice guitar playing on the record with some impressive, although admittedly cliché guitar solos spattered throughout. ‘Sinners are Winners’ having the best on here and stands as being my favorite track on the whole album, with an endless amount of cheesy guitar riffing, soloing and melody lines that will be running circles in your head days after listening to it. ‘Worry Less, Dance More’ has some impressive moments, with a nice lead up to the breakdown and a charging drumbeat carries the track into a synth filled ending.

One Morning Left will be looked at and laughed at by most people who appreciate Metalcore. Whilst I see why that is, I disagree whole heartedly and believe if you can go into this with the thought that fun is to be had, then mark my words, fun will be HAD.

Their song with Jake Luhrs popped up this morning and was quite fun, as was what I've since heard from the new release.
