Review Summary: Nothing is enough.

With 'Rien Ne Suffit', Plebeian Grandstand seems to have one goal, and that is to make you feel how they feel. The pandemic was not kind to many people. One unseen effect is the despair, anxiety and immense depression associated with extreme isolation. The winding paths between songs mirror the many mental and physical manifestations of the pandemics toll on our well being. There is a close relationship between claustrophobic and isolating passages, and the anxious crawling blast beat driven anthems. Both equally an uncomfortable experience, both as equally effective at driving home the goal. As a listener this is an exercise in alternating between a meditative wallowing and an apocalyptic self-flagellation. The ebb and flow of misery. The blue of depression and self-loathing. The red of unrelenting pain.

This one hurts.

Not the longest review but too long for a sound-off. This was one hell of a ride front to back.

This album is absolutely unhinged and one of the best releases of the year for me. If you’re expecting black metal, you might be disappointed because it’s got much more in common with industrial and improvisational noise at times. No light.
