If you live outside of Europe and have heard more than one song by the Rasmus, i truly congradulate you (I live in florida and have three of their cd's). The Rasmus are a Finnish, by the way. Alright, so the record in question today is Into, circa 2001. Before the review, lets meet the band -
Lauri Ylonen - Vocals
Pauli Rantasalmi - Guitar
Erro Heinonen - Bass
Aki Hakala - Drums
This is the Rasmus' third record, but its the earliest one i've heard so far. Into has a great mix of flat out stunners and sterotypical pop-rock songs, but that isn't neccicarily bad.
The first song that i always skip to on this record is bullet, an absolute masterpiece. A slow, mellow beginning morphs into a hard rocker, with some great lyrics - "like a bullet you can hurt me, take me, break me like fire you can burn me, take me, break me, like a bullet you can hurt me" aboslute stunner. Bullet also includes a great guitar solo. Its by far the best song on the album, no question.
Another highlight from Into include maddness, which is pretty much one of the sterotypical pop-rock song, but great nontheless. Simple guitar riffs power this song with a great demonstration of Lauri's smooth, nonchalant singing.
F-f-f-falling is another song that makes the good list, a song that could get stuck in youor head for hours. A soft, acoustic guitar carry this song through the verse, and then electric into the catchy as hell chorus. Great bridge section to this song, and a short but sweet solo
There are no total turkeys on this cd, which makes the small ten tracklist acceptable. The rest of the cd pretty slow with some gerat ballads besides heartbraker, a techno-ish sounding song, which i really like. Anyway, if your in the states and can find a way to pick this cd up, i would highly reccomend Into. It gets a 3.5/5
