Review Summary: What is there to say..? This band wrote the adorable song 'Anal Evisceration'.
Ingested is a brutal death metal band from the UK. Their major influences presumably include Cannibal Corpse, Annotations of An Autopsy and anything of the sort. The first I heard of this band was a snippet of the song
Skinned And ***ed. I liked what I heard, so I decided to look up the song. I immediately thought “oh… it’s one of these bands.” Suffice to say, I was right. But the first thing I have to mention is do not let the cover of this album fool you. The cover implies it will be an old school type death metal band, with songs about killing and mutilating and what not. But nope. This is one of the insane fecal fetish bands whose lyrics are so over the top, it’s f*cking hilarious to listen to.
I mean, this band wrote a song called Anal Evisceration. Automatically, this album gets an extra .5 rating. Just reading the title of the song lets you know this band does not want you to take its lyrics seriously. Let’s take a look at some examples, shall we?
“Bite down chew the sh*t. A**hole leaking anus. Split filthy discharge from the sores. Faeces covered butchered wh*res.” . That’s adorable. Would you like some more examples?
“Anus leaking putrid rectum reeking penis rotten faecal. Feel the sh*t in your throat you will die in a faecal choke. Regurgitate your own guts blood and sh*t from anal cuts.” . Yeah, it’s one of these bands. Ingested have taken the art of writing the most ridiculous and putrid scenarios, and weaving their words so intricately to make a sort of poetry. Cannibal Corpse must rival these f*ckers.
So yeah, obviously the lyrics are
not the strongest point (unless you’re into that kinda stuff). You can’t even make out what the vocalist is saying half the time, unless you make it a point to look up the lyrics, or read the cd booklet if you’re old-fashioned. With that being said, how is the production and musicianship of the album? Is this bone crushingly heavy or ridiculously redundant?
While the drums throughout are spectacular. I have a very hard time believing that they weren’t programmed. I could probably look up a video of them live, but I’m lazy and that’s not relevant. The drumming is phenomenal. You have all you could ask for, blast beats, double pedals, insane fills, the works. The major problem however, is with the production. We all know blast beats are fun to listen to, but Ingested have turned the drums up so high in the mix, it’s actually quite difficult to make out the guitars and bass. You try and listen closely to their technical skills, and you just hear the kicks. This may not be a big deal for some people, but it really did bother me. When you can hear the guitars, they don’t really do much other than to make the song ‘brutal’. They’re tuned very low and palm-mutes are apparent, which just blends in with the bass. The guitars and bass are so shamelessly similar, that it’s virtually impossible to distinguish. With that being said, the actual playing consists mostly of chugging with a few solos thrown in whenever felt necessary. The vocals are pretty standard stuff; low enough to blast your speakers and highs that rape your eardrums. Nothing I haven’t heard before, but it does sound quite badass.
To sum up,
Surpassing The Boundaries Of Human Suffering is actually a fairly boring release. It’s just standard fecal fetish-core. If you’ve heard Cannibal Corpse or one of their thousands of clones, it’s nothing new. However, the lyrics are so god*amn entertaining, I will add .5 because I did have a good time reading them whilst listening.
May all your anuses bleed onto your c*cks, gentlemen.
