Review Summary: SLIT YOUR FUCKING GUTS

Some albums are just filthy as all hell. Filthy to the point where you feel like you just rolled around in a tar pit for a few hours and need to take a day-long shower. Death metal is good for those kind of feces soaked albums and Ritualistic Intercourse Within Abject Surrealism, Thai brutal/slam death metal band Ecchymosis’s most recent output, is for damn sure one of those albums. Ecchymosis has been pumping out their brand of vile brutal death metal since 2014 and this one is their best yet.

Anyone that is a fan of brutal and/or slam death metal in any capacity has a decent idea of what to expect here. This genre is a pretty hard genre to be unique and stand out. A few things take this particular album over the top and put it in the upper echelon of brutal death metal for me. First off the drumming performance here is off the charts insane. The constant blasts over and over and over will make you feel like you’re being bludgeoned with a crowbar and the assault never lets up. The second thing is the overall sound of the production. Everything is clear and concise yet there’s that ever present murk as if this thing was recorded in a deep bog. And the thing that brings it all home is the absolutely disgusting vocal performance. Think of Demilich’s burps on meth wrecking everything in their path. It's what I’d imagine a possession of a small child would sound like.

Ritualistic Intercourse Within Abject Surrealism is offensively sickening in the best way possible. Ecchymosis take that typical brutal death metal formula and puts their own personal stamp on it and enhances it in the process. This is how all brutal/slam death metal should sound. Enough groove in the slams and yet enough variety in the riffage and crazy drumming to really spice things up. If you’re a fan of brutal or slam death metal in any way, you owe it to yourself to jam this band.
