Review Summary: A solid alt-metal band with heavy tool influences.
In the wake of their success, Tool spawned a unknown number of faceless imitators, but there were some bands that took the core Tool sound and added their unique flourishes to the sound making it their own.
Think of Another vertigo rush as a Mutant injected with a healthy dose of undertow era Tool, sprinkled with some Pink Floyd and OSI on top. Needless to say this combination offers some truly unique songs with enough hooks to get stuck in your head. On the flip side, it also leads to a couple of uneven songs.
"Drop" is a fantastic way to open the album, only a minute and twenty eight seconds in length, it's propelled by a skeletal six string figure on guitar before the second guitar joins in playing a simple melody and finally the drums come in, the remainder of it's short lived duration is a track propelled by immense atmosphere over virtuosity. Elsewhere guitarists Viraj Mohan and Akhil Sood conjure up some delicious Tool inspired riffs during the excellent instrumental "Phase II".
"OM" is a straight forward alt-metal attack, Nu-metal vocals in tow but still manges to impress, even though it strays dangerously close to overstaying it's welcome. "The vibe" quickly brings the band back in Tool territory, a fantastic track again making use of atmosphere it creates to drive the song, special mention has to be made here of the rhythm section, made up of Nikhil Rufus Raj on bass and Akshat Nautiyal on drums. One needs only to look to the face melting intro to "Prevail" to see how tight they are, "Prevail" is a song that wastes no time charging out of the gate with a brutal intro and verse before taking a gigantic left turn into a epic chorus with guitars wailing that will put a smile on your face.
