Manger on McNichols is a one-of-a-kind collaboration, decades in the making, between Detroit-turned-Griselda rapper Boldy James and producer Sterling Toles. While James is best known for his deadpan delivery over grimy beats, Toles places his voice in a vastly different context - smashing jazz, gospel, and orchestral flourishes into a surreal, deeply emotional soundscape. Toles spent years sculpting these beats, layering live instrumentation over Boldy's early, raw verses to create something almost operatic. The result is a project where the instrumentals breathe and evolve, sometimes swelling into near-chaos, sometimes retreating into delicate beauty.
