| 4.5 superb | Fiddy; local potato, atonality advocate, and salsa enthusiast | May 27th 20 | Mysterious Mountain is Hovhaness's second symphony, an ethereal, meditative work that does its
name proud. Prayer of Saint Gregory, Prelude and Quadruple Fugue, Alleluia and Fugue, and
Celestial Fantasy are all short-ish pieces that go along the same lines but with occasionally
added intensity. They are truly, exceedingly excellent compositions. Perhaps the best work on
here, though, is And God Created Great Whales. It's essentially a miniature symphony that
incorporates whalesong to create massive and sweeping soundscapes.
