4.5 superb | Doublez38 | November 16th 19 | This new Michael Kiwanuka album is very close to Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood, especially in the retro spirit (although it's Soulful), but also because without revolutionizing the music they both have fantastically perfect albums released. So it's true, Kiwanuka is a little less brilliant than Titanic Rising, but it's a great pleasure to listen to him and relaunch him again. In addition to being a great musician, he is a singer who speaks with his heart, and who shows great humanism. This ease, to introduce the pieces through interludes but also this ability to sequence the perfect transitions where we notice that Kiwanuka is a great work. There's a lot of that, but I also insist on the beauty of the songs that are present or everything in its place here. Moreover, to go even further in the retro spirit, we really have the impression that the production is authentic, greyish, and stifling as it was then, and especially as it could have been released at the time

4.0 excellent | Chino smoking it up! | December 16th 19 | the opener is catchy af...then its like its the vibe doing its part. Also the tracks are weirdly linked, in a good way. Anyway gave a few more listens and the album is really smart.

3.5 great | You should pay me to tell you what to listen to, really | November 1st 19 | nah, that was pretty cool and lavish, i digged. Better than his 2016 album. even if it's an exercise in nostalgia-wanking it's still better than having another neo-soul/rnb frank ocean worship piece.

3.8 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | January 12th 21 | Benjamin Clementine is that you??! Michael Kiwanuka also operates within the "live'n'organic instrumentation-backed and personal lyrics-wise" soul department, but his work is less grand and more subdued, as if Clementine had to be bold because his background story is downright harsh. Kiwanuka is more soulful, and gives more space - and time - to the most gentle pianos chords. In the same vein, props to Danger Mouse for the production job, it serves Kiwanuka's lyrics well. Gotta trim the fat just a tad, because the most beautiful moments are properly gorgeous.

4.5 superb | CBYHASADHD | April 14th 20 | Been a fan of Kiwanuka for a while, and I think he's hit a sort of prime in this record, with more experimentation and some timely undertones. Another good one from our guy, more to come I hope.
