Giddens gets the balance right on this one. Working with familiar elements from her first two
solo albums, she polishes and perfects this third one to the point where it outshines them
both. Harmoniously blending seemingly disperate folk traditions from the Americas, Africa and
around the Mediterranean, she makes a good musical case that "there is no Other." And while
the album is thought provoking, it never loses its heart and soul. Giddens' voice rings with a
warmth and spirituality that beautifully conveys the album's emotional core.
