Review Summary: IQ = Instant Quality!

The young knives cookbook:

You will need, a caulron.

Take 2 slightly overweight posh geeks from oxford. Give them a guitar, a bass, and two microphones.

Grab yourself an equally nerdy, skinny drummer from the same area. Why not give him a microphone aswel.

Dress them nicely and generously with some fine tweed. Then bring to the boil in a cauldron.

Add some well seasoned punk, and sprinkle a pinch of pop into the cauldron. Boil for 45 minutes.

When finished boiling, add some comedy and over the top wackiness. Cover and let simmer.

When done, you should have the Young Knives debut LP - voices of animals and men. Yes it's true, the 3 piece, upper class toffs first grand outing damn well hits you hard, with facts, knowledge and the bizarre. All these of course cruising a rollercoaster of fresh indie punk. Lead singer(s) Henry and the House of Lords have distinctive vocal styles sounding very playful but hysterical. Drummer Oliver does a great job keeping up with the bands fast tempo punk-rock-comedy-pop orgy of sound.

Released in 2006. Lead single off the LP - Here comes the rumour mill, is a catchy, bouncy, gem of english indie, with a "i don't give a ***" guitar solo. She's attracted to - another single, features a very punky bass line, and singer Oliver rants about a failed relationship in a comical way. Bass player, The House of Lords, being a direct sibling of Oliver, has a very similar style voice which compliments Oliver's very effectively.

For fans of Indie, Punk, Pop, or somthing new. Check these out, they are a pleasent surprise.

8 year bump, lordy lord.

This sounds a lot better removed from the slew of post-punk revival era stuff. 2.5 → 3.5

A fun record, brings back old memories when almost all UK indie records sounded the same.
