Metallica, for a long time now, have been better at covering other bands' material compared to writing their own. In fact, I'd go as far as characterizing them as one of the best in that. So how well have they interpreted their own stuff here? Well, sometimes it works better than others even within the same song such as in the verse and chorus of "The Four Horsemen", but overall, they have done a great job and the same applies for the four cover songs ("When A Blind Man Cries", "Please Don't Judas Me", "Turn The Page", "Veteran of the Psychic Wars"). They have fused their music with country or western elements, something which provides nice differentiation from the original versions, the guitar work is great (brings to mind some guitars on Load) and Hetfield's vocals are solid. All in all, great job as expected.
