Review Summary: Deicide's unknown bastard child
It was 1993 in Gothenburg, Sweden. While the scene was moving towards mediocre melodeath, one talented musician Wojtek Lisicki and friends reminded the metal world of the truth. Aggression, Occultism, Satan, Rebellion, Deicide, and Leads of Torment made their debut release Demonication a death metal classic.
If you happen to be a fan of power metal that name might seem familiar to you. Wojtek Lisicki went on to become the guitarist of Lost Horizon, the band he joined after putting Luciferion on hold. Listening to Demonication you can definitely hear some of the same qualities that made Lost Horizon so memorable; those qualities being the outstanding solos and the otherworldly atmosphere.
There isn't much of a need to describe the sound of this album. For one it speaks for itself. It’s basically like being stabbed in the face with a pitchfork. Or as I like to describe the tentacle angeldemonabomination on the album cover raping you as it descends down to hell. For two it is essentially a tribute to Morbid Angel, Deicide, and Immolation. If you like those bands you will probably like this. The riffs are relentlessly pounding, only letting up for moments of uplifting transcendence. The vocals are one of the best performances in death metal, taking heed where Glen Benton left off. The drums are perfect as well. The symbols crashing are like the cracking whips of demons.
There is a cover of Sodom’s Blasphemer on here and as you can probably guess it’s better than the original. On that note to conclude, Luciferion on Demonication (The Manifest) take everything done before and just make it more awesome.
