In many ways this feels like a finale to the Classical era, tied to the symphonic sounds and formal ideas that typified Haydn's prime. The lack of woodwinds in the original arrangement gives the texture a feel not unlike some early Baroque works, but the vocal harmonies are unmistakably of their own time, and quite exceptionally so.
