As soon as you turn this album on it'll kick you in the stomach. Comets creates pure sonic madness with guitars drenched in fuzz and reverb and an Echoplex. The Rock n' Roll riffs on this album are so catchy you'll find yourself humming them for days. The entire album was recorder on a 4 track cassette recorder in a garage in Santa Cruz and then fixed up in the studio.
ALL I NEED
The first song on the album brings in the noise in style. With a catchy verse and excellent vocals which are most likely about space or boozing or graverobbers for that matter it makes it one of the best songs on the album. The start of the song is the best part with the feedback and the echoplex in full force 4.5/5.0
GRAVEROBBERS
This songs starts with some whistling and some guitar picking and then delivers the goods. This song is drenches in the fuzz by the bowlful. The echoplex effects on this songs are some of the best on the album. It also has a neat little drum solo(sorta) towards the end of the song. 4.0/5.0
ONE FOOT
The song starts off with a solo which I don't really like much. The chorus in this songs seems pretty weak compared to the other songs. I also don't like the echoplex in this song it just seems overused. 3.0/5.0
GOT A FEEL IN
This song makes the entire album for me. If i could only listen to one track on this cd it'd be this one. This song starts off by fading in from the last one and breaks in with a wicked catchy as f
uck verse and then into a ever more catchy chorus. The first time I heard this song I knew I didn't make a mistake buying this album. 5.0/5.0
RIMBAUD BLUES
This song is just pure fun. Comets take off a the effects and just have a little jam and fun song. I don't ever think there is actual lyrics is just them yelling.
LETS TAKE IT ALL
This song starts off with the drummer pounding out some kickass beat and lots of feedback. This song is a slow song but still very catchy ecspecially the lyrics. I'd have to the say this is one of the best songs on the album. It kind of drags on but it doesn't take much away for the song. 4.0/5.0
THE WAY DOWN
This song goes back to the high paced fuzz rock. I really like the drumming in this song it suits the song good. The start is also off the hook. And the singing is good too. It also has a nice jet effect towards the end which throws in abit of change. 4.0/5.0
COMETS ON FIRE
This song is pretty much fast placed sludge rock. The song only last under 2 mins but it's still pretty good. I really like how Ethan sings on this song. It makes me happy. 4.5/5.0
GHOST OF THE COSMOS
This song is alright. I really like the screaming at the start. The song drags on for awhile there's nothing special. But toward the end they change the song up abit which makes the long wait worth it. 3.5/5.0
DAYS OF VAPOUR
This is a live track from a gig in 2000. It shows how good the band can be live. The only thing off is the singer otherwise it sound exactly like it did on the studio tracks. It's pretty cool except i can't even tell which songs they played and there is only like 5 people cheering for them.
Overall this album is pretty good. The songs do all sound then same though and do get a bit repeatative. But none the less it's still a great album from a great band. But beware this album is not for everyone.
