Review Summary: With Confidence has only touched upon "that something".

With Confidence is a relatively new band in the pop punk scene and they have recently released their sophomore record. To say the least, they focus more on being catchy than substance, though some hints of their debut album can be seen here and there, for better or for worse. They focus on a much more poppy approach as seen in songs such as "Moving Boxes", "The Turnaround" and " Pâquerette (Without Me)". These are usually met with very shallow lyricism and some of the most simple pieces of instrumentation this band has ever put out, being simple guitar riffs with the same build up, especially for Moving Boxes. The Turnaround and Pâquerette (Without Me) are almost indiscernible with how similar they are.

The vocals do match with the songs well usually when they are more focused on that pop punk vibe like we've seen on Better Weather, especially on songs such as "Icarus" which have much harsher vocals than we have heard from this band. "That Something" is a very radio friendly song as well, but it's a good upbeat album opener that shares that same old vibe from their debut. This could also be said of the track "Spinning".

"Bruise" is probably the most heartfelt song here. It's the album's ballad but it's met with very light vocals as well as acoustics. A softer track is also "Sing To Me" which may just be another love song, but it has the best lyricism on the record: "I know that time is on your mind, but time is just a construct." It even shares some of the more harsh vocals in the bridge.

All in all, With Confidence have taken a bit of a step back in terms of their sound's progression on their second record but they are very well aware of the punk rock vibes they can put out.

Yeahhhhhh, this band isn’t worth too much attention.

Unwritten rule is one review a day. Take the time to flesh out your writing more.
