The name "sloth" has meanings of lazy, sluggish, and tired. Sloth does not apply, but they do lack to make something bold. Their sound is so similar to other rock bands on the radio. This SoCal quartet needs a little pizz-azz.

Just by reading the track list, you can already assume the similarities.

The opening track, "All We Know" the band introduces a heavy sound with nothing to back it up. Rather bland and generic, but heavy no matter. Although tune the radio, you will find Sloth is doing the same thing.

In terms of mucis, they incorperate many bands sound into theirs. They have influence of Tool that is too obvious. When you copy Tool's debut, "Opiate" you have crossed a bad boundry. Imitation may be flattering, but it is another thing to be orginal. "Billygoat" and "Broken Crutch" im imitate Tool the most. Sloth's guitarust is talented none the less, but cannot match the aptitude of Tool's sound.

The track, "Open Your Eyes" has a Middle-Eastern sound with the strum of the guitar. Including the fast drums and great vocals, a great song idea. If only they could have recorded an album with greatness as this song.

All in all, there isn't much to say about "Dead Generation." This album sounds like a tribute to another band that doesn't know it yet. They just replicate bands they enjoy. Maybe a new producer and more time spent writing better material, Sloth could release a powerful album. Sloth fell short this time, so this is a prime example of a sophomore slump.

2/5

LOL....First let me say I am a huge fan of SLOTH. They have been around since 1993 and actually caught their first show opening up for Pigmy Love Circus which is Danny Carey's band from Tool....hence maybe some of the influence. What happened to this band and I am not knocking their debut album Dead Generation ....if anything the album was over produced. For the year this was one of the best album released. Say what you will but your review is probably one of the most hideously written one's I've seen in a long time. Honestly you sound like a bitter musician who shouldn't be reviewing music.....anyway to each his own... lol
