Review Summary: Like a perfect marriage of new and old, The Orange Friction perfectly blend 60's rock n' roll with small flares for the modern, ala Cage The Elephant.
The opening riff of Born To Lose gives you an immediate idea of what you're in for, energetic, charming, and vintage sounding. Like an early recording of The Beatles lost until this moment. The lead single 'Tell Me' boasts a fantastic hook, sounding entirely its own. That seems to be the most admirable part of this EP, it may pay homage to music of old, but the songs themselves are always looking forward.
But it's not all energetic, the band takes a moment to let us breathe in the soothing 'To Love The Summer', which really allow the vocals to shine with well written melodies.
What The Orange Friction does best is write absurdly catchy music, and even though they've drastically changed their sound from their last EP, the songwriting has remained consistently strong. Lyrics on the other hand are fairly standard for the genre, and don't add much to the music, despite being charming. Here, the melodies and instrumentals truly shine, and the EP's short length make repeated listenings enjoyable.
Orange Friction is a young band who is new to the scene, and is easily one of the most effective of the genre, sounding ripped straight from the decade. It's easy to imagine them gaining a lot of attention in the coming years if they continue releasing music this solid.
