Respected if not entirely well-known, Burn was a project born in the underground of New York City's hardcore scene in the 90's and while a couple of great EP's are attached to their name, they never released an LP. Fast forward to this year and the band finally got the time and money together to make a debut LP, and thus we're given Do Or Die. The music here isn't anything particularly special, just solid hardcore with some decent production. The vocals, however, are something else entirely. They're a strange mix between gruff and attitude-driven and painfully amateur that somehow all comes together to make something that is at the very least interesting if not good. One can't help but think that if the production matched the vocals in their rawness and the speed was increased throughout that this LP could've been excellent, but this clash of cleanliness and rawness doesn't do the record any favors. Solid stuff, no doubt, but it could've been a lot better.
