Apex is a slab of fantastic power metal! It is also a concept album - a very enjoyable one that
you can either sit down and absorb the story, or just enjoy the music. Additionally it doesn't
have the awkward spoken interludes concept albums tend towards that ruin the flow. Imagine a mix
of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and 3 Inches of Blood with a sprinkling of melodic death metal.
Refreshingly the stereotype elements of power metal are not present here. This is not the
traditional swords, dragons and wizards inspired power metal with cheese all over. Music wise we
have great riffs and shredding solos that are reminiscent of the previously mentioned bands. The
vocals also avoid some of the common stereotypes of female fronted metal bands and feels to be
channelling Dio. This is my introduction to the band and I am very impressed! Songs to check out:

The album's phenomenal vocal, riffing, and lead-playing performance complement the great concept from start to finish, making it probably the greatest power metal album I ever heard, and it's honestly not remotely close.

I shouldn't like this, but I keep putting it on. Familiar with its maiden throwback energy and twin guitars, but with an absolute gem of lead vocalist that I just can't get enough of. I can't help but smile while listening. Some days, I need that.

Basically instrumentally melodic death metal but with almost exclusively female power metal vox.
The instrumental work makes it constantly catchy, backed up by Hayes' fantastic vocals. Rly good

It may not be particularly ground breaking or technically brilliant, but goddammit it puts a smile on my face every time I listen to it. It's just good old fashioned, fun power metal.

While Unleash the Archers had always felt like they were missing something before, I just *keep* coming back to this album. It's not perfect, but the highs are high and the lows are... also pretty high.

Canadian power metal with possibly the best female vocalist in metal finally figured out how to write a consistent album! Each superbly written song has its own identity, which is rare in power metal, and fits well into the entire album. Additionally, Apex is a concept album with a cohesive story that never feels forced onto the music. I also dare you to sit through this because it will be the happiest hour of your day (unless you hate epic, melodic music and just want to listen to post-metal and funeral doom all day.)

Unbelievably bland. Their vocalist is one of the most talented female leads in all of metal, but she's really wasted here. Every track essentially runs at the same tempo with just slight variations and it is monotonous as hell. I dare you to sit through this thing. It's literally an hour long.
