Review Summary: A thrilling debut from a portland outfit proving that punk is indeed still aggressive in 2017.
Once in a while while randomly browsing through bandcamp you do in fact end up actually finding something good. I came across this band out of the blue one day and they took me by surprise. I felt it was necessary to give this album a review. I haven't heard of them before, but they released two EPs before this one (which I haven't heard). This album is their full length debut, and how is it?
This year i haven't really heard very many good punk albums, or not good enough to stand it's own ground in my opinion, but I feel like this one here is a very good exception. This is a hard hitting, heavy and raw album; full of great riffs, a powerful and raw voice by the lead singer, and interesting and varied drumming for a recent punk album. The voice by the lead singer carries an evocative 'deftones-like' sound, which works, because it's not totally similar, and its great with the instrumentation here, which also has a very Every Time I Die vibe. it's raw, it's aggressive, it's in your face and a lot of these songs will bring you back to a time where it WAS cool to punch a wall during your punk-era phase.
I think the tracks that really stand out here are 'This isn't Home' which was sort of a groovy tone in the middle half way of the song carried by these time signatures that give it a raw and unique sound. Some of the more aggressive songs on this are 'Last on the Steak Knife', 'The Soviet', and 'Fox & Snake' which supposedly has a feature on it, someone i heaven't heard before and i couldn't really distinguish it from the other voice which was the only flaw for me. Another song I really didn't care for too much 'The White American Will Be Held Accountable (feat. Dreu Hudson)' which the featured vocals on here keep the same inscrutable tone.
I think it's a very impressive release from a debut album and has a lot of replay value with many of these tracks. They are heavy, abrasive and fresh for a time that has been quite dull for punk in 2017. They certainly have my attention now, and i look forward to their next LP in the future.
