4.5 superb | krongey | December 8th 21 | Quirky, convoluted, snarky prog with the strong influence of Zappa's mindset and Gentle Giant's frenetic instrumental interplay. The lyrical subject matter takes jabs at various bourgeois silliness, religious hypocrisy, masturbation guilt, and that kind of thing. The arrangements and ensemble work are pretty mind-blowing and there are many episodes of the album that are just plain master level. My first exposure to Bubblemath was hearing the song "Be Together" on a streaming prog radio site. It's quite an achievement, approaching and evoking, although not copying Gentle Giant's "On Reflection" and Yezda Urfa's "Cancer of the Band."
