CANDY PIG (Primus, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Tool, Rage Against The Machine)
CANDY PIG's latest release "Essence of the Groove" consists of bass heavy songs with lots of grooves (like title
says) dark and moody (in a good way) rap/singing vocal stylings from the dynamic frontman Johnny Carver. This
four piece originally out of Charlotte, N.C. put together a full album of funk, metal, rap, hardcore' punk infused
songs that will get you moving and fired up with a mayhem/psychedelic trip through songs like "under the fan",
"nonsense", "funkshun", "beer store" and "brainfed". Todd Ashburn's slap style bass lines carry the band onto a
crazy hardcore funk train ("nonsense", "under the fan", "smile") while guitarist Scott Brown's psychedelic
colorings ("pick up", "funkshun") and Tool like tones and crunch blends perfectly throughout the album. Drummer
Dan Lawlor does not lack in funk and hardcore drumming skills as the rhythm section shines bright on this album.
If you like the bands Primus, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Tool, and Rage Against The Machine you should
definitely give CANDY PIG's "Essence of the Groove" a listen.

I gave CANDY PIG's "Essence of the Groove" a 4.5 rating out of 5.0 mainly because of the incredible rhythms in
the songs. Very strong basslines and drumbeats with the coloring of guitar and vocals to match. The song
"funkshun" is especially catchy and my favorite... pumps hard, Very catchy groove and vocals.... 4.5 out of 5.0
