3.5 great | manosg EMERITUS | January 14th 17 | Even though I am not a fan of exclamation marks on album covers, I am glad that the beautiful artwork made me check this one. On Let Horse Be Bridled, Horn Be Sounded!, one will find quality atmospheric black metal heavily influenced by The Lord of the Rings which brings to mind Summoning (of course). There are spoken word passages, ambient moments and most of all a very convincing atmosphere. Despite the fact that it feels that there is one band for each copy of LOTR sold, Moongates Guardian's latest effort is a highly addictive offering if you are in the mood for some atmospheric metal.

0.0 | Scuro EMERITUS | March 22nd 17 | Hmmm, what to give it? On one hand, this album is a whole lot of fun. The spoken word passages, folk elements, ambience, little adornments and embellishments are all really cool. The construction of the tracks is really good and the whole atmosphere created with the Middle Earth theme is super enjoyable. My only issue is that the straight up black metal parts sound pretty generic and very same-y throughout. Not a huge issue given the surrounding variety and the arrangements, but it is atmospheric black metal at the core and that element of their sound is lacking in punch and intrigue. Hopefully a follow-up effort can improve on that aspect because elsewhere this experience is a shining example of how to handle a theme. Tentative 3.5' even though it sits in the middle of that and a 3.
