Review Summary: An EP from the highly talented Raziel. I'm always on the prowl to find new music that I can connect with upon listen. Myspace has been pretty effective when it comes to finding new music. The internet has become the breeding ground for musicians to share their music across sea's and plains. In this age, the computer has made it more convenient for music lovers to find what interests them. In my case, Myspace has been super effective in showing me bands I had never thought to exist. One of these bands come by the name of "Souls Of Nephilims". A rather unknown band that deserves to have some attention brought to the name. Judging by the artwork and the title, you might be expecting some Gothic inspired music. In some way’s, it is. The music soars to a new level of excellence with haunting piano runs and heavy reliance of the atmosphere providing the soul of the music.
They had just sent me a request via myspace so I decided to take a look. What I was expecting to find was an obscure melodic metal band. Instead, I found a band that is as far away from Metal than I could imagine. Basically, "Soul's" is an instrumental band that relies on classical elements to take the music to new heights. The man behind this goes by the name of Raziel. I don't know much about him other than the fact he resides in Portugal and creates all of the music himself. He has produced plenty of music in the past couple of years. Releasing numerous albums and EP's with an ever flowing stream of music. He has taken influences' from "Dark Sanctuary", "Nox Arcana", and "Elend" while managing to kick up a musical storm of his own. The music leans toward the dramatic with epic, haunting compositions capable of entrancing the listener upon first viewing. This EP, "The Vampiric Requiem" is a mix of past songs being pushed into the light. 3 songs clocking in around 15 minutes may be stretching it a bit, but gives the listener a taste of what to expect from other releases..
The music shows no aggression at any point, and relies on the piano and other elements to create relaxing music. No guitar, bass, drums, or vocals to be found here. This is strictly instrumental driven. Each song has their own identity as Act II and Act III feature the piano being used more often to blend with the synth work. I'm not really certain with what instruments are being played but the music itself is pretty breathtaking in it's own right. The atmosphere being given off is truly remarkable. Chilling is a good word to describe this although there are qualities in the music that could bring out the inner peace stored inside us. Production is impeccable in capturing the instruments being heard clearly to the fullest extent. This is one of those bands you can just pop at any time to clear your mind away from daily troubles. Just, great chill music that hit’s the spot. As I said before, you can download this off his myspace for free. Give it a try, I’m pretty confident that those looking for something relaxing can find something to like off this. All in all, I give this only a 4 because of the length of this. Don’t take that to heart because this is solid music that is easily accessible. As a listener, this EP accomplished everything that I was expecting to find and now looking towards his full length albums.

i see good things coming from this band
It's not really a band though, it's just one guy composing classical/ambient music.
It's pretty nice Willie, great music to lie down and close your eyes to.

Thank you Willie. Yeah, i've improved alot over the past couple months. Except for my Sevendust review which was kinda forced I think i'm doin a pretty good job. Agree with Reznor, pretty relaxing stuff.

oops i meant the one guy has good things coming. next time i listen to this though i will probably listen to it while relaxing.
| | | yeah, it's not really something to be energetic about. That goes with a lot of classical music, it's all very relaxing. But yeah, I definitely agree with you there jrowa, this guy has heaps of potential. Classical with a dark/gothic tint is something that is definitely appealing to me.

I as well enjoy classical/gothic more than the casual music listener. You should check out Midnight Syndicate, Dark Sanctuary, and Elend.
| | | I finally listened to it and I liked what I heard...
