3.0 good | Fiddy; local potato, atonality advocate, and salsa enthusiast | August 19th 16 | Black Malachite's new EP shows he's found a style that fits him well. Hes also way more confident than on his debut, which shows more maturity as an artist. However, he fails at one crucial thing: experimentation. Even though the songs are solid, there is barely anything truly engaging about them. What this artist needs is to get out of his comfort zone and try to do something interesting and creative with his sound. We can only hope he takes this into consideration; it would be wasting talent if he doesn't.

3.5 great | Jared Floryan | August 19th 16 | Hey, you know about the "buffet of appetizers" line ALA used in his summary for the review on Distortion World? Under the Black Malachite alias, Dalton Dubois takes said buffet and condenses that into an EP via Pitch Dark Neon. It's an overall more steady and arguably confident recording that isn't prone to nearly as much genre hopping as the full-length album preceding it. Showcasing elements of trap, synthwave, and techno, Pitch Dark Neon can come off as a little too comfortable on occasion, though if it's any consolation, Dubois continues to move upward (albeit gradually). Dicks out for Somalia. Angel recommends: "Cigarettes and Stoplights" and "Night Winds".
