4.0 excellent | Lubricant | September 30th 16 | In what is easily their strongest release, Famous Last Words master their songwriting and storytelling with an album that sounds like a true "sequel" to Two-Faced Charade, but with less filler content and more musical motifs to represent characters. My only gripes about the record stem from JT's voice, which fumbles at times (though not enough to be heavily detrimental), and the track "The Judged" which sounds uncannily similar to other songs of theirs, namely Two-Faced Charade's "To Play Hide and Seek With Jealousy". The Incubus still certainly surpassed my expectations - my favorite tracks as of now are "Marionette" and "Trophy Wife".

2.0 poor | c0nf1n3d | November 14th 16 | Famous Last Words backtrack in their latest release, "The Incubus". From the get-go, this feels like a tonally/musically sequel to "Two-Faced Charade", however, the material here just isn't as interesting. Perhaps that's due to the strange song composition, where the vocals take up arguably 90% of the record - where the rest of the band hardly gets to shine in any instrumental parts. Compare that to their previous record, "Council of the Dead", that had a real blend of instrumentation, vocals, and contrasting styles. Highlights from this one include "Trophy Wife", "Pretty in Porcelain", and "The Judged" (though the latter sounds eerily similar to songs on 'Two-Faced Charade'). Hopefully, Famous Last Words next time around decide to further their progression seen on 'Council...' versus attempting a repeat of 'Two-Faced Charade'.

3.0 good | AmbushReality | October 4th 16 | Feels like a step back in terms of melody and songwriting from their previous two records, especially the Two Faced Charade which, in my opinion, is one of the best modern post-hardcore/metalcore records out there. There are some bright spots, but the choruses don't catch nearly as hard on any track, guitar tone across the album is quite muddy, and lead guitar is virtually non existent. This band has the tools to put out great songs, just for whatever reason, it feels like they didn't realize that potential on this album.

3.5 great | m4j3stiq | October 4th 16 | Such a solid album. I felt like there's so much more potential here still - a lot more. Anyway "The Judged" makes me wet af.
