not pabel's best, still they suggest indeed what apollo might have first played if he had invented keys instead of the lyre and flute, getting gradually better and more masterful within his first hour of play, as the arias arrange themselves from the more timid to the confident, iv and v proudly expounding themselves in their second halves, while the finale in vi goes ever beyond exploring, experimenting, creating, divulging the novice becoming the master

A collection of arias with variations that may have been the most well-known thing Pachelbel put out during his lifetime. Given how certain other keyboard composers would experiment with variations on themes in the future, the importance of this piece should not be lost on anybody.
