On paper, this split seems like a really good idea, and though it does follow through on its promise of strangeness, it's not quite as good as one would've hoped. The Blut Aus Nord side starts out with three industrial-influenced atmo-black tracks that all seem to be building up to something greater, without ever really fleshing themselves out. Pleasant to hear, yes, but somewhat inconsequential. What they built up to in "Infra-Voices Ensemble", though, is excellent, with a strangely catchy, danceable industrial rhythm dominating the song while still reveling in atmo-black. The Aevangelist side is pretty decent, but the sound of the drum kit is definitely a drawback. However, the atmosphere in this track is pretty claustrophobic later on, after it too adds some industrial spice to the mix. It's better in theory than in practice, to be sure, but Codex Obscura Nomina does have some pretty awesome moments in its forty-one minute runtime.
