Review Summary: hey babe, you really gotta give me a second, there's a big long list and everybody wants me
After the shimmering synths that introduce "Icy Love", when Tevlo and Veela smoothly utter the song's first lyric "ELEC-TRIC-ITY", you can certainly feel that "shiver down your spine" they go on to describe in the following verse. It's the ecstatic pleasure - the thrill that jolts throughout your body - from the touch of a lover. They couldn't capture the moment better; it's sexy and exciting, surging with rips of guitar leads and seductive vocal hooks. The song is a sensual electro-funk banger, and the ideal choice of title-track for an EP brimming with those intoxicating moments of fervent attraction.
The
Icy Love EP is an encapsulation of the pivotal moments that drive the illogical fiery passion of early attraction. The aforementioned title-track is a sweat-soaked ode to the electricity of physicality, while the other two songs "Beautiful Addiction" and "Circles" each have their own spicy themes. "Beautiful Addiction" sees Veela at her best; she sounds smooth, cocky, beautiful, and absolutely aware of it. With admirable confidence, when her ethereal vocal delivers lines like "Hey babe, you really gotta give me a second, there's a big long list and everybody wants me", you believe her. This song and the whole of the EP is a drastic departure from the dubstep cut-and-paste performance she usually contributes, but her voice throughout is still an easy highlight.
Speaking of highlights, it would be a crime not to mention the EP's fantastic production. Aside from also performing vocals which create a nice contrast and further flesh out the perspectives in which love can be seen, Tevlo really shines in his role as producer. Nothing feels overdone; from the splicing of traditional instruments and electronic elements on "Icy Love" or the phasing bass wobble on the more d'n'b number "Circles", every detail is layered to perfection. Each of the three songs here has its own flavor, and by the time you reach the end of the EP you're eager to start it all over again. Fittingly for a release about chemistry, these two have it in spades, and hopefully the
Icy Love EP isn't the last we see of these two together.
