Although Despond Bring nothing particularly new to the genre with their first (and final) LP, they've managed to produce a powerful (and clearly overlooked) slab of Doom metal which strikes a balance between the typical dismal, crushing guitar riffs and guttural growls as well as more uplifting segments which feature melodic guitar leads, keys and semi-clean vocals. Definitely worth a listen. r
