In this album, Ian Gillan doesn't sound comfortable as in the previous one, where he was exploring into the jazz rock and the progressive rock, while still gripping his rock identity strongly, which shows in his singing style.rHowever in Scarbus, it seems that the band is tending to go deep in experimenting with this style, but at the same time, Gillan sounds more like trying to pull some breaks, and keep some of his hard rock roots alive. rAnyway, this albums has some highlights, songs like the title track and Mad Elaine definitely have the Gillan heavy metal vocals style that would later shown in the band Gillan, while some track like Mercury High is a good time Ian Gillan Band had.
