3.8 excellent | DaveyBoy EMERITUS | November 23rd 15 | With a sound that flits between post-hardcore, metalcore & alt-rock, Californian quintet Speaking the King's show promise on their debut LP 'Carousel'. Expertly produced by Steve Evetts, the anthemic qualities to most of these 10 tracks impress, as melodic choruses soar along to Bobby Burap's lead vocals. The metalcore elements of the record are the weakest pieces of the puzzle, with some songs simply forcing harsh vocals or chugging breakdowns. It's all far from innovative, but if you check your head at the door, this is a fun & energetic 35 minutes worth. Recommended Tracks: Motion Sickness, City Lights, Choke & Close to Impossible.
