Review Summary: It would be great to listen to Kadhja’s voice singing along to a track which is more contemporary and 2016 centric.

I recently discovered Kadhja Bonet’s music on iTunes, after playing through a 1 min 30 second snippet of her song “Honeycomb” I just had to listen to the entire album. A compilation of 8 tracks, her new album “The Visitor” fits in perfectly into jazzy experimental pop.

This album is food for thought, it satisfied my craving to hear a new sound. However, it was not an easy listen, most of the songs are the same tempo and have the same vibe so it can be difficult to listen to the entire album in one go. Hearts of heart, I was hoping that instead of a Jazz drum, at least one of the song would go into a big hip-hop electronic drum kit and go up in dynamic but it never happened. I was slightly disappointed with the production throughout the album as song after song, it sounded more and more dated and did not do justice to Bonet’s overtly contemporary voice. It would be great to listen to Kadhja’s voice singing along to a track which is more contemporary and 2016 centric. Bonet plays with enticing harmonies and vocal embellishments throughout the album. There were a couple of songs I enjoyed much more over the others, “Honeycomb” being my favourite.
