Review Summary: You deserve so much more than this

Circular thinking is the logical fallacy in which the reasoner begins with what they are trying to end with. Hidden beneath the subject matters of love and adolescence is a presence of uncomfortable foreboding. Nothing changes but simply a desire to change. The brief duration of Circle Thinking coincidentally creates a notion of nostalgia, growing up too fast and missing out on long lost youth. Reinforcing these notions are expressed in the track one by metallica “nothing is getting better, nothing is getting any better”

The vocals come across as an impassioned plea for help. Bands such as saetia before them, focus is on emotion rather than melody. There are a few additions later with the introduction of gang vocals Happy Anniversary and the guitarist pulling off his best Aaron Weiss impression “One by Metallica”. Although, in successfully applying the bands influences; Circle Thinking truly shines.

From grunge laden shoe gaze You + Me = Slipknot to introspective lull San Francisco the guitar is a domineering figure keeping control of the mood. The drums keep themselves a distance seemingly low in the overall mix but can be heard noticeably in I ***ing Hate Sports. The bass is admirable whether frenetic riffs Happy Anniversary or fitting the sullen nihilism You + Me = Slipknot it carries the record whilst still being able to stand out in certain passages.

A lost love permeates the surroundings of Circle Thinking. More often than not reflecting on a break up can be a hindrance, spending hours arguing over the semantics of if it was you or them. It’s fitting then that the record ends on quoting Morrissey Everyday Is Like Sunday. Whilst to be happy and in love is what the artist desires, the eventual ending isn’t worth the price of admission. There is no point in pursuing any other relationship. The simple statement both artist and listener eventually realise. You deserve so much more than this.

Thanks rufinthefury I didn't know how people would gauge the vocals at first. I thought they'd be a marmite kind of thing. Each listen is getting better for me

Thanks Torts, I was worried my ending in the review may come across as negative. Thanks for the pos rufinthefury I can see what you mean by the CTtS similarity. I've been listening to city of caterpillar a lot lately and see some comparisons there as well.
