Soaked with blues songs and aided occasionally by his mom (Molly Drake) and/or sister (Gabrielle Drake) these recordings capture the period where Nick was fine tuning his abilities.
You can hear a distinctive difference in his voice on tracks such as; Blossomand Black Mountain Blues. The latter of which Nick adapts a more bluesy tone which results in a lower and louder vocal performance than you'd expect from Nick. His voice also favors a lower pitch on Blossom. Despite the difference it fits well with the songs and as long as you don't try to notice it too much it sounds good.
It's also nice to hear the Drake trio singing songs together, as their voices blend in with each others quite nicely and it creates a kind and soothing atmosphere. It's reminiscent of the singing done to put a baby to sleep.
Of course, the guitar playing is top-notch, which keeps the blues songs full of life and an added frantic and rushy feeling which is provided by the quick finger-picking of Nick. It really keeps the songs going and makes them much more interesting than the typical blues number.
A great compilation of rarities that show how Nick before he perfected his sound.

This is almost as authentic as pink moon, and there isn?t a moment that doesn?t add to the incredible rawness of this collection. I really, really recommend every Nick drake fan listens at least once through.
