Review Summary: Philly's own "Hyper Inc." returns with their follow up: Second Time Around
Hyper Inc's second release Second Time Around is the bands follow up E.D (short for Extended Demo, because they refer to their releases as demos even though I feel as if they are much more.)
I know I sang Demolish! Revolt!'s praises to death, and I had every right to have. So does Second Time Around do the same to my ears? Well, yes and no.
First thing is first, the production is a bit lacking in S.T.A when compared to Demolish! Revolt! The guitar isn't as full and beefy and the live energy found in Demolish! Revolt! isn't as prominent. But these things don't make this EP bad, just lacking.
Another thing to note is that the music is a bit happier sounding and the band does this very well. The songs are again written very well, but there's not as many hard driving songs as before. Despite "Just Like You" and "Never Be The Same," other songs follow the soft-loud-soft-loud formula that's commonly found in alternative songs, therefore the E.D is a bit more mellow. But this works very well. I truly love this band, and even though this album/E,D may lack some elements I fell in love with in Demolish! Revolt!, it brings new things to the table. The band has grown and evolved in the last two years and I can't get enough of this band. If you're in the Philly area and come across them, see them!
