A Hawk And A Hacksaw try too hard. It seems like they want to be Greek or Eastern European (or whatever that style of music Beirut plays is called) so badly that they forgot they had to write songs too. As it is, these are a bunch of directionless songs with lots of accordion and crappy-sounding violin. There are the occasional flashes of brilliance, like the chant during the first few minutes of the opening song and bits of string-based beauty scattered about, but it's not enough to carry a whole album.
