Review Summary: MB II takes the sounds Moodie Black were using on "Nausea" and push them too a whole new level of dark, and disturbing.

It's been an interesting few years. Watching more out there hip-hop artists like Death Grips, Clipping, and Shabazz Palaces rise in popularity has been a real treat, but one of the things I have found most interesting is the amount of people focusing on the uniqueness of these artists, when in actuality artists like Food For Animals and Dalek have been doing this sound for well over a decade.

If you're a fan of any of the acts I've mentioned thus far Moodie Black is more then likely something you'll enjoy. I first stumbled upon their music last year when after the release of their album "Nausea". I was instantly in love after first listen. The noisey, slow moving, and dark beats mixed with front man K Deaths's gruesome, monotone flow create an extremely intriguing landscape of sound. Though you can definitely hear there roots (which they freely admit on "I D O L") they are most certainly a beast of there own.

MB II starts off with the track "M A R R O W", and within just the first few seconds of this track you've been pulled into K's disgusting, distorted world. This track really doesn't have a beat. It more just boils down to this swirling wall of noise with sporadic pounding drum hits now and then. K sounds more sinister then ever before on this track even going as far as too directly call out Death Grips.

Once we get too the second track "I D O L" things go back too Moodie Blacks more typical sound. Minimal drums surrounded by sheets of industrial noise. What really pushes this track too the next level is K Deaths intense fast paced flow in the verses. It's a welcome change of pace from slow drawn out sounds he's primarily used in the past.

Tracks 3 and 4 continue in this direction with "1 0 0" featuring an extremely catchy hook that caught me off guard, but stuck with me for days on end. "R O B S M I T H" closes out this EP with a 5 minute monster of a track. The way this beat builds throughout is truly astounding.

If I have one complaint about this EP it's that it's too short. but these songs are perfectly fleshed out, and progress Moodie Blacks sound too the next level. I can't wait too hear what these guys are going too do next.
