Review Summary: A brilliant sneak peek of what’s to come

It isn’t common for a fresh new artist to release a debut that manages to excel in almost every aspect. Yet somehow this little no-name New Jersey duo did exactly that with their debut EP Drones. While only four tracks, the immense amount of talent and potential that Red Giant bring to the table with their incredibly captivating mix of almost trip-hop, almost downtempo fusion along with an exceptionally sound vocalist is almost uncanny. Main vocalist Foxanne brilliantly captures the feel of Drones. Her angelic ranges and dark, poetic lyrics flow well with the mixtures of slow and chill melodies or the quicker more urgent beats of each track. Deeing the two sides of Drones - one chaotic, the other restrained - is what truly makes Red Giant stand out overalll.

Tracks like Twin Peaks and Atmosphere have slow and restrained chill out vibes, residing in a floaty atmosphere aided by cold synths and dark, heavy drums. While Criminal Minded and R.E.M are quicker and more urgent in style, frantically skittering around with the slightest pinch of guitar and bass arrangements that spread the melodies thick. The success for the EP comes in subtlety. For each sinister and mellow melody present in each track the layers of beats that succeed one another have but only quiet shifts in style and attitude that precedes the one before it. Rather it be the minor vocal chop or skip during a lyric, or the tiniest sample and instrumental clip that roots itself into main track slowly in and out create an unsettling and dark atmosphere that brims in mystery and creates intrigue for the next residing track. Considering that Drones is only four tracks and manages to do so much in it's short time is why Red Giant are a duo to keep on your radar.

If you like what you hear, consider supporting Red Drone by throwing a few coins their way or by sharing this EP with your friends.

Review is kind of sloppy, been playing around with multiple drafts for this review trying to decide how to represent an EP as outstanding as this one. I hope it suffices.

'Seeing the two sides of Drones one chaotic, and one restrained is what truly makes Drones stand out overall.' - Perhaps 'seeing the two sides of Drones - one chaotic, the other restrained - is what truly makes Red Giant stand out overall' might work better? Dunno.

Review was cool though, pos'd. Sounds like I might enjoy this, I'll give it a listen.

EDIT: Yeah, this sounds pretty cool. I'm not as fussed about the guest vocals but the atmosphere is great and her vocals are brilliant for the music.

Yeah, the rapper dude wasn't that great which is what kept it from a 4.5 for me. though the guest vocalist on Atmosphere is pretty great.

I was looking into this duo a bit, apparently Derrick Braxton (The producer of the duo) produced for Lupe Fiasco. More specifically his tracks Pressure, The Coolest, Streets on Fire, and Gold Watch.

This is holding up really well on repeated listens, the opener and closer in particular still stand out although I now think that the guest vocalists work better.
