Along Shorelines from Melbourne Australia have been building a local reputation after the release of their first single "Shipwrecked". Although at the time every member but 1 was under the age of 18 it sounded like a band on their 2nd or 3rd album, with a perfect blend of hardcore heaviness with a fantastic use of cleans. The musicianship for their age was the first thing that caught my attention.
When their debut EP "Voices" was released through bandcamp I was quite keen to give it a listen, after hearing the piano intro in "Conquered" I was immediately blown away by just how professional It all sounded, as the bounciness of the first riff kicked in the groove element they add to their hardcore sound was prevalent. Onto "Viral Ties" and a heavier sounding Along Shorelines pumps the listener full of adrenaline, making good use of cleans, this short but sweet song keeps the momentum of the EP going. The title track "Voices" (my personal favourite) starts with a beautiful synthy/piano section before exploding into the heaviest part of the album, with vicious vocals, pounding drums and crushing guitars still blowing me away after 20 listens.
Up next is the previously mentioned "Shipwrecked", then onto "Future Thoughts" the furtherest sounding song that you would expect from a hardcore band, beautiful soft melodies which make great use of the guest vocalist, showing just how diverse this band could be in the future.
By the time "traitors" is over, you will be wanting more I can assure you, this 20 minute EP rivals the bigger bands first EP in the genre. A fantastic effort by these boys from Melbourne.
