4.0 excellent | Jared Floryan | March 8th 15 | Japanese rock supergroup Sukekiyo basically started on the right track with their debut album Immortalis. Stylistically, the record is more or less a throwback to the sound of Macabre-era Dir en Grey, albeit with the sophistication from Dum Spiro Spero present. Speaking of, vocalist Kyo certainly gets to showcase his exceptional range as both a meticulous singer and an unrestrained shriek/growl technician; "The Daemon's Cutlery" is a proud example of the latter. The instrumentation may not be as bizarre as what's expected, though it matches up to this release's dark nature rather well. Takumi of Rentrer en Soi fame also deserves a special mention, considering how he fares on album opener "Elisabeth Addict" for instance.

3.5 great | Jau Peacecraft | June 3rd 14 | Randomly impressive album by visual-kei alumni that effortlessly sounds old school visual-kei but with the benefits of modern production, years of experience per member, & moderate experimentation.rWould pair well with Dir en grey's MACABRE, I think.

3.5 great | Dummit | May 31st 14 | Kyo showing off his pipes + lyrics/songwriting that probably didn't fit the Dir En Grey mold
+ less extreme instrumentation with the same macabre atmosphere = 'Immortalis'. If you like
Dir En Grey at all, this should be a healthy addiction to fill the void between 'DUM SPIRO
SPERO', 'Sustain The Untruth', and their forthcoming album later this year.
