Review Summary: No Shame is Pepper's weakest release yet, with mindless lyrics and pointless songs. Skits also clog up the album's flow. Thankfully, a few catchy tunes like "Rent" and "Bring Me Along" and instrumental talent save some of the band's dignity, keeping the

No Shame, Pepper's 3rd studio release, is also Pepper's weakest alum so far. The band is mainly influenced by punk, reggae, and ska. In No Shame, the band fails to blend these different genres to create their own sound.

No Shame begins with the easy listener, Bring Me Along. This song has a very catchy chorus and some nice guitar work. Rent follows Bring Me Along, and through the childish lyrics, it still shines as the highlight of No Shame. The sing-along chorus and bubbly reggae feel make this song one of the few reasons to listen to this album. Nice Time features a nice little chorus and nicely flowing lyrics, making it an easy listen.

Sadly, only a select few tracks on No Shame are bearable. The album immediately drops off with No Control. The yelling in this song is nothing but loud and annoying. Lost in America and Outta My Face have ridiculous lyrics and are just childish. Also, the skits do nothing but take away from the flow of the album. They are not funny and do nothing but clog up the album. Like Your Style is...a hip-hop rap? Why they included this song on the album is beyond me. The rest of the album is completely mediocre, quickly boring, and hard to listen to straight through.

Maybe it time Pepper shows some shame. This album is nothing but a mediocre mess. It's hard to achieve the perfect balance of rock, reggae, hip-hop, and ska. Few bands have achieved it. Pepper came close to perfection on Kona Town, but has lost all hope with No Shame. Maybe we need to stop comparing them to their forefathers, Sublime. Maybe they should stop trying to pick up where Sublime has left off. No Shame is an average album for a band that has done much better.

This is an incredibly short review for an 18-strong tracklist. Your first review was about the right length. You need to try to go into greater detail with the songs, and feature more on the general highlights/low points, as well as the general feel of the album.
That said, stuff like this

Rent follows Bring Me Along, and through the childish lyrics, it still shines as the highlight of No Shame. The sing-along chorus and bubbly reggae ...

...is good, but you should feature more of itThis Message Edited On 05.18.07

i agree with the fact that is their weakest release but i give it a five because even at their worst they're still the best? if that makes any sense, and i just so happens that my favorite song on the album is NoControl. as you can see. and could someone please point out these so-called child-ish lyrics? thanks

Not so much the lyrics but the annoying "HEY!!!" at the beginning of every damn line.

Also, "This is your station under no control...let go...blah blah blah..lame."This Message Edited On 08.18.07

calling pepper childish and their songs pointless shows someone who really has no clue what the people in this band are like. they're not the kind to pack their songs full of emotional fake crap to get popular. they're real and their sound has stayed steady. seeing them in concert shows their personality, which shines through in their songs. music doesn't have to be superserious all the time, and to someone who likes sublime so much really look at their lyrics. "i got a dalmatian, but i can still get high". you think that uberpopular line is fucking meaningful? blow it.

Definitely no need for a double post there. ^

It really doesn't matter what Pepper sounds like, in an opinion-based forum, if someone thinks they're childish, ya gotta deal. I'm a fan of this band and have enjoyed everything else I've heard, but Dub Sean is not wrong in stating this is by far their worst offering. The tracks ARE pointless, compared to the rest of the band's output. The band makes fun music, we get it...welcome to the reggae/ska genre. This, however, is not fun music. It's recycled, churned out slop with very little effort from the band. The whole record feels forced, and the fact that they give us 18 songs here is a bit of a slap in the face. If this kind of time would've been invested on Kona Town or In With the Old, who knows how much better those could've been.

Also, the attacking of review lengths on this site is getting retarded. Generally, real music reviews don't get into useless detail and track by track analysis. People tend to stop reading if they have to leaf through a novel just to see if a disc is worth checking out or not. This sums up the album with its length, there's absolutely no sense in explaining the same thing 18 times over.

skyliteashes, Pepper is a damn good band, but your comment is gonna chase people away from them. *Cough* fanboy *Cough*

Its hard to listen to this album and NOT have a good time.

I feel like the criticism of Pepper comes from people who simply don't like the genre. Which is fine, of course we all have our opinions. But to call something "childish" because the music is simple and repetitive and/or because the lyrics are only about chicks and weed... well, you just gotta listen to something else then. Or smoke a bowl and give 'em another shot.

That said, the skits get VERY annoying if you just wanna listen to an album and chill - so I just deleted the skits from my iTunes and problem solved.

I agree with the review on this is Pepper's weakest album. "Kona Town" is a fantastic album and this just doesn't compare to it. All of the filler and nonsense in this brings it down, however this is still not a bad release.

I fucking love the chilled-out-ness of this album. The songs all sound so much better live though, their live album is pretty great.
