Review Summary: "THEY WANT ME TAME !!!!!"
Joshua Bailey aka Cubbiebear is MC/producer/fantastic artist/rap music mastermind from Baltimore. His music may be designated as a hardcore rap with some aggressive, noisy, distorted beats. His distinctive style may sound familiar for Dalek, Billy Woods, El-P and even Death Grips followers and here's the thing this year music labeled as a "noise rap" has exactly zero releases ...... until now because Force back to sleep is noisy, disturbing and scary ***in great in every single element.
Force Back To Sleep vibrates on the very same frequency like his debut LP called The Rape released back in 2008. Whole LP from start to finish sounds uncompromisingly with strong feelings back in the head that you're listening something special because every single song is quite unique with slightly different vibe and eye (in this case "ear") for detail but still LP as a whole package sounds unbelievable cohesive in the end. To be honest this record speak the same lenguage like History will absolve me by Billy Woods but for me this sounds more mature in musical terms. If you listen to this LP carefully you probably have to admit that everything about those beats is excellent and well executed, from great chosen samples to superb execution in terms of musical details and his ability to keep listener attention in red numbers for whole time is admirable. I bet majority of Billy Woods fans wanted to Dour Candy sounds like this (sorry Blockhead i love all your stuff which you ever created for Aesop Rock but your style is not one hundred percent compatible with Billy Woods musical landscape)
With all that passion behind this music I have to admit I fell in love with this record pretty much immediately. I am convinced that this LP is like delicate chocolate for those listeners who love El-P music as I do. It's like Cancer 4 cure on steroids I am not saying it's better or worse (it's most likely worse) just a bit different but still on the same musical playground. Next musical neighbour with no doubt is P.O.S. This CD reminds me Audition in so many ways especially with all these experimental noisy beats and anger gushing through every decibel of music.
I almost forgot, lyricism is of course better than rest 90% hip-hop releases you've heard this year. If you don't believe skip reading and go straight to youtube and type "Cubbiebear - Tame" which is leading single and great track for those who aren't familiar with his music. Another stand out tracks are Still Can't Fly, Tear It Down, Smile, Alcohol for sleep and Patience... and fillers? Nah this piece of art don't have any.
This LP is a must have "material" for all hip-hop fans and it's my contender for Album of the year alongside with Run the Jewels, The Uncluded and Ka's new LP. I strongly recommended to grab this CD as soon as possible it's worth to listen. I just feel sad for Cubbiebear because this LP never get attention which truly deserve.
I will conclude this review with simple words "Thank you Joshua"......
