4.0 excellent | Herbie Chrost | April 28th 16 | Simply going with the reputation Matthew Herbert has as well as the immense discography this guy has amassed (in fact, I kept looking for this album under the artist name The Matthew Herbert Big Band) I would have thought that there would be much more rating for this guy's work. Album is an excellent combination of big band (while also throwing in cool jazz, swing, and avant-garde jazz just to keep each track fresh) combined with glitchy electronica. However, the electronic elements are subtle and contribute to the the tone and aesthetics of the portraits that each track portrays while simultaneously adding additional layers on top of the instruments. For anyone interested in the likes of Nujabes or maybe even Flying Lotus, this is a must listen. Those who want to listen to an interesting modern jazz/jazz fusion album should also check out this overlooked gem
