Review Summary: Baby Animals return with a new album, but doesn't live up to the lofty heights of it's predecessor

Baby Animals were:

Suze DeMarchi - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Dave Leslie - Guitar, Vocals
Frank Celenza - Drums
Eddie Parise - Bass, Vocals

After their awesome first album, Baby Animals were pressured by their label to record another hit album, with mixed results. It is a heavier sound than the last album, but definitely not better.

The album isn't too bad as a stand alone album, the biggest problem is when you compare it to the incredible previous effort, this just pales in comparison, it isn't consistent and suffers from some stupid lyrics such as "At the end of the day, the sun goes down".

As with the previous album, the vocals by Suze are fantastic and the band does an amazing job of backing her up, with again, Dave's great riffing and Frank's powerful drums being the highlights of the instruments. This can be easily seen (or heard actually) in "Backbone", easily Baby Animal's heaviest song, alternating between a head-banging chorus and a bluesy verse.

In conclusion, the album is hard to review, with it's main strengths being the instruments and the vocals of the band, and the weaknesses being the inevitable comparison to the incredible first album of the group and the lack on consistency in the album.
It's overall a bit more polished, sound-wise from the last album, but loses the raw power and emotion of the original album. It seems a little sterile and sounds like they didn't put their all into the album. You won't be hearing many of the songs from this album on tour!

Recommended songs:
Backbone
Lights Out at Eleven
Bupata
Nervous at Night
Life From a Distance
